Geneva is a great cultural centre. It has a variety of theatres, an opera
house, a big concert arena, a myriad of museums (40 public and private ones),
and numerous places of historical interest. Yearly events, such as the
international motor-show, film and music festivals, or the Geneva summer
Festival keep the Genevois and their visitors entertained all the year
round.
Places to visit include :

The Jet d’Eau (water fountain)
Truly the icon of the city, this 140-metre-high water jet functions almost
all year round. During the night, it is lit up by many lights. Close
to the Jet d’Eau lies one Geneva’s most photographed objects: the flower
clock, decorated by several thousand flowers.

Around the Place des Nations
The European headquarters of the UN are set in a majestic building, close
to the Place des Nations, famous for its sculpture of a broken chair,
symbolising opposition to landmines and cluster bombs, and acting as a
reminder for the heads of state visiting Geneva. A few steps away are
situated the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum. Close to
the lake lie the Botanical Gardens, which are home to an amazing variety
of plants and to the “Doe Park”, where deer, ducks, peacocks, and pink
flamingos live together.

Place Neuve
Standing in the middle of Place Neuve next to the fountains, one can
admire the Grand-Théâtre (the opera house), the Conservatory of Music
and the Rath Museum, renowned for its temporary exhibitions. A few steps
away stands the Reformation Wall – a sculpture of four great figures
belonging to the movement.

The old town
Its cobbled streets and numerous boutiques make it worth a detour. See the
Maison Tavel – the oldest house in Geneva – and sit on the longest bench
in the world at the Promenade de la Treille, or visit Saint-Peter’s
cathedral, famous for its green roof and its crypt.

Carouge
Just a few minutes away by tram from the city centre. Dating from the
18th century, Carouge has a unique atmosphere, very different from
Geneva. Nice cafés, boutiques and beautiful tree-lined squares
are Carouge’s trademarks.
