Helmut Schnitzer

Head of Security Policy Department, Federal Chancellery of Austria

In a modern society with a highly developed globalized economy and a high level of international division of labor, dependence on critical infrastructures is becoming ever more important. Austria’s public services, as well as its attractiveness as a business location depend on the availability of critical infrastructures. Natural disasters, human error, threats in cyber-space, crime and terrorism threaten the operability of such infrastructures. The Austrian government has therefore developed a Program for Critical Infrastructure Protection specifically to tackle the aforementioned issues. Utilizing an all hazards approach, its main focus is to support strategically important companies with the development of a comprehensive security architecture.
